Social media agency vs in-house team:which fits a growing brand?
Founders ask us this in the first meeting, and the honest answer is that it depends on what breaks first in your business: ideas, production or consistency.
What an in-house hire is good at
Speed and proximity. Someone inside the business sees the product, the customers and the founder every day. For stories, community replies and reactive posts nobody outside can match that. The limit is range: one person is rarely a strategist, a photographer, an editor and a designer, and the feed ends up shaped by whichever of those skills they have.
What an agency is good at
Range and system. An agency like Touchwood Team brings strategy, creative direction, photography, video, editing and publishing as one unit, plus the pattern recognition of running several accounts at once. On one FMCG account that system took views per Reel from about 8,200 to about 852,700 over two years. The limit is distance: an agency needs a good client-side contact and a clear brief to stay close to the business.
The cost question
A mid-level in-house social media manager in Delhi NCR costs a salary plus equipment, software, and the freelancers they will still need for shoots and design. A retainer bundles those. Which is cheaper depends on volume: below a certain output an agency is usually more efficient, above it an in-house team with agency support for production often wins.
The hybrid most growing brands land on
One person in-house who owns the brand voice, replies to the community and feeds the agency real-time context, with the agency running strategy, shoots, edits and publishing. It keeps the proximity of in-house and the range of an agency, and it is how our longest client relationships are structured.
How to decide
If your problem is that nobody posts consistently, start with an agency and build a system. If your problem is that the content looks generic, the fix is creative direction and production, which is agency work. If your problem is that the agency never understands the product, hire the in-house contact first. And if you are choosing an agency, ask to see real, checkable numbers rather than a reach promise.
